I’m a huge fan of the History Channel (the website is www.history.com/) and today they are rerunning a 13-part series titled The Revolution, a detailed examination of America’s war for independence. I taped it off the History Channel when it premiered, so I can fast forward through the commercials. It’s important to study history because that is how we come to understand how the world works. And when we really study history, we discover that we hold many wrong assumptions about what really happened. There is a tendency to oversimplify both events and people in history.
