Here’s the stuff I private messaged when on the Crichton message board. I thought I’d copy and paste it here. If anyone has objections to my pasting something they said, please let me know and I’ll remove it.
“Global Warming: Get Used to It”
By Fareed Zakaria
www.fareedzakaria.com/articles/newsweek/021907.htmlI found some interesting things
concerning climate change on the BBC website.
The first is from an ongoing message forum
titled “Have Your Say”. The messages are
in response to these questions:
“Have you noticed any effects of climate change
where you live? What should be done to minimize
the damage to our environment?”
newsforums.bbc.co.uk/nol/thread.jspa?threadID=4872&&&edition=2&ttl=20070317032100The other is an article about two British climate scientists who are criticizing
other researchers for exaggerating the danger and risk of global warming.
Caution urged on climate 'risks'
By Pallab Ghosh, Science correspondent, BBC News
news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/in_depth/6460635.stmAnd another BBC article about climate danger exaggeration:
Chaotic world of climate truth
news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/6115644.stmAnd from the
Washington Post…
Hollywood's Climate Follies
By Robert J. Samuelson, Washington Post,

www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/03/20/AR2007032001430.htmlFrom Dudley B:I have summarized all the available surface temperature data and explained the whole thing as briefly as I know how. I put it all on the following web page. I hope you all enjoy it. Like Joe Friday says, "Just the facts, Mam, just the facts."
www.dsllc.com/GlobalWarming.htmFrom Kickup:Dudley et.al,
Regarding your last graph of highs and lows, if I recall correctly, MC himself had a similar graph pictured in SoF. And this is exactly what stuck so profoundly in my mind. I kept thinking "What is all the hubbub about with an overall average of less than one degree difference?" And I know more than one source said how scientists in the 1970s thought we might be going into an ice age. The figures Dudley provides bear out their concern. (record lows 1971 & 1976) But of course all that changed. This might well, too. I believe if any warming is going on it is cyclic.
There is a current researcher, been researching this whole issue long before GW became the "In Thing" to argue. He is convinced we are going into a mini ice age, not GW.
I will try to find his Web site and post that.
Cool stuff Dudley. Thanks.
First, here is the ice age guy I was telling you about, Robert Felix:
www.iceagenow.com/index.htm Fantastic article on who stands to lose what if GW is proven false. (Al Gore article)
www.iceagenow.com/Global_Warming_Scam.htm From Kahlessa“Why Did Global Warming Become a Moral Matter?”
By Tim Thorstenson, American Thinker, March 23, 2007
www.americanthinker.com/2007/03/why_did_global_warming_become.htmlFrom Oleg:Dudley's data are very interesting.
But I am worry about campaign in mass media.
It seems to me as campaigns against dissidents in Russia. In Russia such campaigns were organized by state, all was on emotional level, no data, no proofs, conclusions falsified.
I make analysis of Internet messages about MC two last books -SoF and Next. Main part negative, few positive. And messages discuss not MC ideas, but his person. I was better opinion about free world mass media!
From Space Monkey:Hey I can't tell everyone enough to go to the website
www.climateaudit.orgSteve MacIntyre is the owner and the Canadian that broke the hockey stick graph and he also has testified before Congress like MC. Take a look if you can and for instance: see what they are saying about tree rings as past temperature proxy-which a lot of these temperature series are based on.
Right on Dudley B. Props to you for taking on the task yourself. Most people do not do that!
From Kahlessa:Only 24% Consider Al Gore Global Warming Expert
March 24, 2007
www.rasmussenreports.com/2007/March/alGoreGlobalWarming.htm(There may be hope for this country yet.)
There’s an interesting discussion of the global warming debate Michael Crichton took part in at Climate Audit.
www.climateaudit.org/?p=1260I think I know where the “Global warming is a crisis” team lost some votes. It’s where Gavin Schmidt says:
“Okay, this is exactly what I was talking about. You see? Now, it looks like we‘re having a scientific argument, but, this is completely bogus. You don‘t know that it‘s bogus, but I know that it‘s bogus, he knows that it‘s bogus. You‘re being led astray.”The audience could finish the unspoken thought which was:
“And you’re too stupid to realize it so I have to point it out.”Never imply that people are unable to understand something. They will take it personally.
From DudleyB:It seems that my web page looked ok in Netscape but really bad in Internet Explorer. I have fixed it. Now it looks ok in IE and so-so in Netscape. Go figure.
My employer, while he agrees completely with I disagreeessment of global warming and Al Gore's lack of intelligence, would be horrified to discover that I did anything to jeopardize the business. They finally got my Comcast account fixed (after 2 weeks of futzing around); so I have moved everything over there. Sorry for the inconvenience.
home.comcast.net/~dudley.benton/GlobalWarming.htmFrom Oleg:Guys, my personal opinion from debates is very strange. If our planet is in crisis, then some people WANT that it will be a climate/ecology crisis, not any other.
That we are in the deep crisis now, I am sure, but...
As I know from thermodynamics, if entropy in close system increased, you can only state that it is the case, but you can not to say how (by which way) it will be take place.
Will it be an epidemic of new illness, will it be nuclear war or will it be a Mankind degeneration.
Between us, later is more probable when I see on mass media and level of information.
What we must do with it?
Well, my opinion you know. We must do the same thing which we did when we were at crisis for last 20 000 years.
From DudleyB:Several people have asked 2 questions: why did I plot temperature difference over time and couldn't small differences accumulate so as to result in an upward trend. I implicitly addressed both of these issues, I just didn't drag it all out; because I thought the explanation was too complicated for the average reader. I have added an optional section at the bottom of my global warming web page for those with the curiosity and stomach for the math.
