Dear People:
Won't you please help us? We don't just plead for ourselves, but for our little ones. They need CO2 to grow. The sound of them gasping for breath is breaking our hearts. Can't you hear them too? As you people cut back on CO2 production (which is what we breathe) it becomes harder and harder for us to grow. Our little ones are stunted. Haven't we always thanked you by generously providing you with O2 in return? You burn us up and chop us down! Now you're cutting back on CO2! What did we ever do to you? Please! Please, don't do this. We love greenhouse gases! Please bring it on, for our sakes! Help us once again cover the entire Earth! It's *our* Manifest Destiny!
your friends, the Trees "Just Say, NO! to Snow!"

I was talking to someone the other day and he said, “We need to get the glaciers, before they get us first. Remember the Ice Age!” I had a customer the other day who wore a hat that said, “Earth First. We’ll drill the other planets later.” Just a little environmental humor to start the day.

Dudley,
Yessiree, it's a real head scratcher, ain't it? I been wondering 'bout that one.
Kahlessa,
You must see a great assortment of hats and T-shirts at the bookstore. In James Michener's novel "The Novel" c. 1991, set in a very conservative Pennsylvania Dutch college town, one of his female college characters wears T-shirts with slogans emblazoned across the chest every time we see her, like "Bite Me" and worse things like "You've never had it till you've had me," or some such things. It was very daring I thought for an old guy. I think he must have been 80-something when he wrote this last novel. Do you know of other novels where the author uses this slogan device in characterizations?

On April 12, I will be attending a Great Decisions lecture and discussion on climate change. The speaker will be Donald J. Wuebbles, a professor of atmospheric sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In a recent speech “Facing the Realities of Human-Induced Climate Change”, Dr. Wuebbles talked about the near unanimity in the science community that global warming is primarily being caused by humans. According to an article about the speech, Wuebbles was responsible for much of the research presented in Al Gore’s documentary and book, An Inconvenient Truth, though I haven’t found any evidence of that yet. I’m doing my homework to get ready for this discussion. I’m planning to wear the State of Fear T-shirt I found on Ebay. On the front it reads, “I’m Living in a State of Fear!” It should be a very interesting evening. Wish me luck in the climate change discussion tonight. Right now, it’s 30 degrees F and snowing—the perfect weather to discuss global warming.

She wore a tight T-shirt with “You Wish!” written across the chest.

My coworker said the "skeptics" were out in front of Trader Joes (A whole foods natural type grocery store) handing out videos and talking about Al Gore, and how global warming is a scam. LOL Good for them! Good Luck Kahlessa!!!

Wait just one cotton-pickin' minute here! Seeing as water vapor is the most important greenhouse gas, then hanging your clothes outside to dry would be contributing to the *moisture* problem!

I'm a little late to wish you good luck now! But still, good luck!
And what happened in the discussion?

So Kahlessa, Don't keep us on edge! Do give a report. Can't wait to hear how the group reacted to your T-shirt. There was a Link TV documentary similar to Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth." Theirs was called "Bush's Global Warming: Bush's Climate of Fear." This film is a good primer on how the radicals operate. I took notes on this docu and was aghast. They made statements like "If we want to take global warming seriously, we have to accept the challenge of cutting down on CO2 emissions." I was thinking the real statement should be "If we want to take global warming seriously, we need to study the data." They also said inflammatory things like "Global warming is equal to nuclear war. It's a criminal global disaster." which this docu blamed on the use of coal and oil, citing Bush and Mobil/Exxon, primarily. An American writer, Mark Hertsgaard, was interviewed for the bulk of the "information" that was given. All of what he said was undocumented and unsupported by data. Never did he offer any scientific background for his claims. As was the case with two of the scientists interviewed. James Hanson, climate scientist, offered no data. The docu also attacked oil refineries. I wondered how they all got to these sites where the filming took place. This docu was also an attempt to raise money for the publicly operated Link TV. I could see where many jobs would be lost in this one entity alone if GW did not exist in its entirety because of human presence on earth. No mention was made of the sun heating up, the fact that warming and cooling may indeed be cyclic, or that China will be surpassing the U.S. in airborne emissions. We, American citizens, were made to feel guilty so that we would donate to Link TV to help them reach more people with programs like this one. If you're feeling brave and have a cadre of facts in hand, you might go to www.linktv.orgThey have a chat going on about GW. Kahlessa, I'm eager to hear your report. Were you able to ask some good questions?

P.S. The global warming chat at link tv was only for the duration of the documentary during airing. You can, however, view some of their videos.

I’ll write up my account of the event soon. Right now, I’m exhausted from work. In the meantime, here’s something interesting in the New York Times about a film that rebuts Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth: In a Filmdom Premiere, a Foe for Gore By JESSE McKINLEY, NY Times, April 14, 2007 www.nytimes.com/2007/04/14/us/14gore.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

Here’s something Space Monkey sent to me. It’s a link for a letter that Dr. Roy W. Spencer, a NASA research scientist, wrote to Al Gore about his film, An Inconvenient Truth. www.tcsdaily.com/article.aspx?id=052506C
