Michael Crichton turned 65 on October 23 and I’m sure everyone here at Kahlessa’s Corner hopes the good doctor had a joyous day with many more birthdays to come. Here are some other important events that happened on October 23: In 2002, about 50 Chechen rebels stormed a Moscow theater, taking up to 700 people hostage. In 1971, Disney World opened. In 1956, Hungarian protests against the Communist government turned violent. In 1925, former Tonight Show host Johnny Carson was born. In 1813, American fur traders turn over Astoria, Oregon, to the British. In 1777, the British fleet was defeated during the American Revolution battle at Fort Mifflin, Pennsylvania. In 1642, the first battle in the English civil war between the forces of Charles I and Oliver Crowell was fought at Edgehill. In 42 BC, Brutus (remember Julius Caesar) committed suicide.
