Right now there are two important genetics bills in Congress:
H.R. 977—The Genomic Research and Accessibility Act On February 9, 2007, Representative Xavier Becerra (D-CA) introduced, along with Representative Dave Weldon (R-FL), H.R. 977, the Genomic Research and Accessibility Act. The measure would amend chapter 10 of title 35, United States Code, to prohibit the patenting of human genetic material. The bill was referred to the Committee on the Judiciary.
