State of Fear is probably the best book Dr. Crichton has ever written, and I think time will show it. It's too bad it isn't seen more in the bookstores because more people would buy it. The topic is timely and will remain so for years to come thanks to the Pope of Climate Change. Currently, I'm reading Amy Tan's book, Saving Fish From Drowning, and it occurred to me that the title is so appropriate for what the Pope of CC is doing. The meaning of the slogan, saving fish from drowning, is along these lines... Some not-so-wise person noticing the plight of fish, forever in water, decides to save them by removing them from the water. Of course, the fish die, despite all efforts to revive them. So the "well-intended" "savior" eats the fish. He enjoys his reward -- fresh, dead fish -- and continues his routine of "saving", eating for the rest of his life. I'm grinning, now, with the sudden intrusion of another image: salmon jumping the falls only to die. So should more saviors place nets at the bottom of the falls to prevent salmon from exhausting themselves by jumping to ...... oh, my! Tan's book is not literally about saving fish from drowning, however. Good book, though. Why can't State of Fear be promoted more than it is? heh. I guess that wouldn't be expedient, would it, for the big, amorphous "they". And it might be a bit too Inconvenient a Truth, don't you think?

I like the nonfiction analysis of State of Fear but as a novel I didn't like it as well as some of MC's other books like Sphere and Jurassic Park. I think the fiction part of State of Fear was mostly there to prop up the nonfiction.

I think it is because the people who believe in global warming don't want people to doubt their "flawless" theory of global warming. State of Fear by Michael Crichton is an awesome book, its just too controversial for the Climate Change believers.
