Michael Crichton was on Dennis Miller's radio show on June 18. Listen to it here: www.crichton-official.com/video-dennismiller.htmlIt's a brief interview but Crichton talked about State of Fear and Al Gore. Who knew Dennis Miller was a Crichton fan? Miller had some hilarious and intelligent things to say about Crichton's work.

Dennis Miller mentioned reading Crichton's autobiography Travels during the interview. Yesterday, a customer came into my bookstore looking for a copy. It's my favorite of Crichton's books so it will be nice to see an upsurge in sales. Perhaps Crichton will write a sequel soon.

During the interview with Dennis Miller, Crichton noted that polls show that for most Americans, global warming is at the bottom of their list of important issues in this election. Crichton said:
"Americans think global warming is a serious problem about which they want to do absolutely nothing and spend absolutely nothing."
In spite of Gore and company's fear-mongering, for most people, global warming is not a priority, and will be even less of one during a recession. That's why I'm not too worried about what Congress will do, (no matter who becomes president, as both McCain and Obama have taken the position that global warming is a serious problem) because if the actions taken will hurt the economy in any way, voters will turn on politicians who support those actions.

Didn't I hear Dennis Miller ask Michael what his next book will be about? And didn't I hear Michael say that it had to do with how the environment works?

Didn't I hear Dennis Miller ask Michael what his next book will be about? And didn't I hear Michael say that it had to do with how the environment works? Crichton said that he thought many people still don't understand how the environment works, so he wanted to include that in a way that won't be as controversial as State of Fear. In an interview last year, he said he was working on "something like Jurassic Park". So the message may be a subtle part of the exposition, rather than the main point like in State of Fear.

Well, we'll see what he comes up with. I'm a little disappointed that Crichton's new book isn't scheduled until Dec. 28. That means people can't buy or get it for Christmas, though they can use their gift cards to buy it when it comes out. While the date could end up being earlier, it's more likely to be later if there's a change. I was hoping to write "A Michael Crichton Christmas 2008". But if we have the title and description by when, which we should, I can update it anyway.
